I League Bengaluru beat Shillong lajong

Ashley Westwood's side earned their maiden victory at Shillong in the I-League...
Bengaluru FC won their seventh I-League game in the 11th round at the JL Nehru Stadium in Shillong, on Wednesday. Udanta Singh (36') opened the scoring and Kim Song Yong (82') scored late for theBlues.
Lajong coach Thangboi Singto only made a solitary change from their 1-1 draw with DSK Shivajians by bringing in Samuel Lalmuanpuia for Brazilian Uilliams upfront.
Ashley Westwood rung in four changes from Bengaluru’s narrow 1-0 win over Aizawl on Sunday. Lalchhuanmawia replaced Keegan Pereira and so did Thoi Singh for Malsawmzuala. Kim Song Yong and Shankar Sampingiraj came in for CK Vineeth and Seminlen Doungel.
It was young Udanta Singh who provided the initial bit of excitement on the park. A long ball from the back found it’s way to the 19-year-old who volleyed it wide in the fourth minute.
Three minutes later, referee Ajit Kumar turned down a penalty appeal from the 2014 champions as Udanta was brought down inside the box by Chinglensana Singh.
Fabio Pena was pushed into a tight line and forced to take an angled shot from the right, earning Shillong their first corner.
Udanta Singh was difficult to keep out of the game as the Tata FA product had two more shots on target within the first 20 minutes.
Shillong Lajong lacked teeth in attack as Samuel and Fabio Pena failed to understand each other’s movements and were unable to forge any sort of a partnership upfront.
The deadlock was broken in the 36th minute. Udanta latched onto a rebound from his initial shot by Chinglensana Singh and the Manipur born forward deposited the ball into the net past Vishal Kaith.
Osano’s free-kick was flicked by Kim towards Udanta who swiveled around for the first shot but the striker did not make any mistake with the second opportunity.
Three minutes short of the break, the visitors had another chance to score from a set-piece. Skipper Sunil Chhetri stepped up to take the free-kick which was brilliantly parried away by an acrobatic Vishal Kaith, the ball nearly going into the top right corner of the net.
No team seemed to run away with the game but Bengaluru were the better looking side as the home team trailed by a goal at half-time.
Minutes after the break, Lajong almost equalized through Samuel Lalmuanpuia as the striker smashed the ball onto the crossbar from a corner-kick.
Bengaluru looked to attack and close the game on Shillong as they had more of the ball in the opposition’s half and theRedswere compelled to defend for their lives.
With twenty minutes left for the game, Fabio Pena ghosted into the box to get the better of Michael Collins and Curtis Osano as he took a left footed shot on goal but Amrinder came through with the save.
North Korean attacker Kim Song Yong headed in a Sunil Chhetri free-kick from the left but was flagged off by the linesman as he fell into the offside trap by Shillong in the 80th minute.
Two minutes later, it was the same player who yet again headed in Udanta’s flag-kick into the top left corner of the net to double Bengaluru’s lead, providing them with a bit of a cushion.
Late into injury time, Uilliams failed to retrieve a goal as his long-ranged effort went over the crossbar and that was the last of their opportunities.
Bengaluru’s maiden win in Meghalaya’s capital secured them three points, taking their tally to 21, just one point behind leaders Mohun Bagan.http://www.goal.com/en-india/match/shillong-lajong-vs-bengaluru/2177577/report
